ABOUT THE ARTIST
I began painting seriously around 10 years ago after retiring from a very different working life. What started as a quiet, creative pastime quickly grew into a daily practice. I have also found an interest in printing and like to produce moody, atmospheric prints.
I have spent time travelling over the last few years and like to use my own experiences and photographs as inspiration for my paintings and printing.
I love to listen to the sound of the sea or to walk along a deserted beach and 'take in' the vast horizons and expanse of sea. I love the rugged and wild coastline and am 'in awe' of the power and energy of the ocean and waves.
My work focuses on expressive seascapes - often in rich, textured layers of oil paint - capturing the movement, stillness and the emotional pull of the ocean. I aim to translate the sense of standing on a beach: the colour, the light, the space to breathe and the quiet power of the water.
Painting has become a way for me to reflect, explore and express myself. I hope my work brings some of that feeling - of calm, wonder and possibility - into the spaces where it's seen.
Stop for a moment and look.
